Welcome to our Nature School.

Congregation Kol Shalom opened the doors to our Tree of Life Preschool in September 2015 for children ages 3, 4, and 5. Our preschool is nature-based, the fifth of its kind to open in the state of Maryland, and utilizes the wonderful outdoor space and setting that surrounds our synagogue. The preschool wing features a state-of-the-art building with new furnishings and learning materials and two intentionally designed nature play spaces. In addition, the preschool offers multiple program options including sessions 2-5 days a week.

In contrast to traditional preschool programs, at Tree of Life Preschool:

• Children learn directly from biofacts and artifacts;

• Children have daily nature walks with purposeful guided exploration;

• Children develop earth-friendly habits such as recycling and gardening;

• Children develop an appreciation for Jewish traditions connected to nature including saying Hebrew blessings for their healthy meals;

• Children create and reflect on learning through a variety of expressive art forms using natural and recycled materials
